About Masjid Assalam

Our Mosque

Masjid Assalam (WIKA) is a major mosque in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, located in the Tamansari Bukit Mutiara housing complex. Its motto, “Satukan hati merajut ukhuwah, Masjid Assalam pemersatu ummat”, inspires its organizers to unite people across backgrounds and serve the wider community.

Our History

The story began in 2007, when residents of Tamansari Bukit Mutiara (WIKA) needed a place for Islamic worship and learning. Religious gatherings, Qur’an classes, and children’s lessons were held at the home of H Sinung Basuki. The prayer room was named Mushola Assalam.

During 2008, the community and its organizers met with the housing management to request a mosque. Construction began in December 2008 with the determination of the qibla direction and the laying of the foundation stone. Ustadz Wijayanto, WIKA representatives, and the Balikpapan Ministry of Religious Affairs attended.

After construction encountered difficulties over the following six months, residents agreed that H Sinung Basuki would take over its management. The community’s support helped construction progress significantly.

In August 2009, a few days before Ramadan 1430 H, the first call to prayer sounded at Masjid Assalam. The construction committee then became the DKM management team responsible for daily mosque operations.

Facilities

The mosque occupies a 2,000 m² site, with a 1,200 m² area and two floors. Facilities include the main prayer hall, veranda, ablution areas, kitchen, guest room, 11 bathrooms, a two-storey Qur’an residence, women’s facilities, DKM and unit offices, Kopi Assalam, and storage.

• Serve, guide, and bring the community together at the mosque.
• Develop social and economic services, support small businesses, and build mosque-owned enterprises.
